Find someone to be your Sheriff for your Jail and Bail game.  Your guests will approach the Sheriff and give them money to put their friend in jail (typically will pay $1-$2 per minute). The Sheriff will take them to the jail cell, and they have to stand there for no apparent reason! It is a riot to see people in there, but be careful as they may take revenge and put you in there next! Description

Here is a quick clip from a recent Stag & Doe where they used the Jail and Bail.  Notice the Sheriff is telling them that their time is up.  Also take note how many people can fit in there! In this video there are 6 people inside the Jail cell quite comfortably. At the beginning of the night, people are timid and might not even really get what they are supposed to do.  Once they see some people stand in there, it grabs their attention.  They when they find out what the Jail and Bail game is all about, they get into it.  Then they start sending family/friends into the cell, and that is when the retaliation begins!  It is this back and forth game throughout the night, where people get to take revenge on those who stuck them in there.  Talk about a great money maker!

How to Play This Game

We have some recommendations that will help you understand how this game is played.  We recommend that you nominate 1-2 people who are SUPER outgoing and love to be the centre of attention.  They must be good with money, counting, getting people pumped up (not the annoying kind) and good at telling time.  I know that sounds ridiculous, but you will see that it is true!

People will approach the Sheriff’s (have your DJ help) and they will give the Sheriff some money and point to the person who they want to put in jail.  The Sheriff will go to this person, use handcuffs if you got them, and take them to jail for the amount of time that the person paid for.

The “criminal” has to stand in jail, for no reason at all, for the allotted time. It is a riot to watch and lots of pictures will be taken for this poor sole.  The Sheriff will determine when his/her time is up, and let them out of jail.  As soon as they get out of jail, they typically will walk over to the Sheriff and give them money in order to put that person in jail now, so it is their turn!  This back and forth fun will go on and on!

Another thought – you will want to write down on the sign that the guest(s) of honour is exempt from this game.  Otherwise, they will be put in there all night.  Usually at a Fundraiser there is a lot to do, and all hands on deck!  So taking away the guest of honour(s) might actually make things harder.  But that is your call.

How to PROFIT with This Game

We have some excellent tips on how to profit with this game, if you are using it at a Fundraiser.  We recommend that you charge $1 per minute, so if they want to put someone in jail for 10 minutes, they would pay $10.

We also recommend that you have a way for people to bail themselves out, or other people can bail them out.  If they want to do that, they need to pay double for what was paid to get them in the cell.  So for the above example, $20 would have to be paid to bail them out. Now I am sure you can see how there is money to be made with this game!

Get out of Jail Free CardLastly, you can make money by selling “Get out of Jail Free Cards” for $1 or $2 each.  That way, if the Sheriff approaches them, they can redeem this card and get off scot-free!  Here is an example.  After booking, we send you the template for you to print these out for free 🙂

What Kind of Vehicle do I need?

We have highlighted what NOT to bring in Red as we doubt it will fit, and we highlighted our recommended vehicle(s) in Green.   Of course this is only a guideline but we are just giving you our honest opinion based on what we have seen over the years.  We do this day in and day out, so have a really good idea at what will work:

  • Compact Car
  • Large Car
  • Small SUV
  • Large SUV
  • Pick up Truck (won’t fit in the bed with your tailgate up, so you will either have to have your tailgate down and strap it down, or have it sitting on top of the tailgate on an angle)
  • Minivan

How to Prepare for Pick up

We have highlighted in Green what you may want to bring with you so that you are well prepared.  If bringing a truck, keep in mind that you might need to have the back bed totally empty as this takes up a lot of room.  It is quite long so it will most likely have to sit on top of your tailgate.  If bringing a van, keep in mind that you might need to have all seats folded flat, stowed in the floor, or removed altogether.

  • Bungee Cords
  • Tie-downs
  • 3 Blankets – for each of the 3 pieces

How Heavy is this to Transport

A common question is to ask how heavy a product is, so that people know how many others they may need to bring to help lift this into their vehicle. There are 3 pieces to this game – one of them is easy to carry but the other two are quite heavy / large / awkward to carry.  We do not assist in the lifting of games into vehicles for liability reasons, so we advise you to bring a 2nd person along with you for sure!

Wow I love this! Gonna share it on my FB Page too. Thanks so much, and I cannot wait to see your video!

  10. Chelsea Macsai

This one was such a hit!! We had it set up where everyone could see, so it was way more embarrassing for people when they were “arrested”.

    • jackofallspades

Right? That is the only way to do it… to showcase them in front of everyone. It seems as though you chose the perfect location. Glad it was such a hit!

  11. Shane S.

This jail cell was the center of attention the entire night. Definitely worth it. This was amazing. We had it placed in the center of the room and blew an air horn any time someone was sent to jail. $2 minimum double to get out. 2 minutes with no food, drink, or phone. (We had a small table beside the jail cell to leave food or drink)

I love the air horn idea!! Thank you for sharing that with others, as I am sure other people will adopt this idea.

Thanks Stephen for your review! That can happen depending on the audience, or what other competing factors you have going on, or even who is running it! Nevertheless, I am happy that people enjoyed it.

The jail and bail was a hit at our stag and doe! Nobody had seen it before so the crowd was throwing people in jail all night. Good money maker! Would highly recommend.

Ahhh, love it! This almost always does well at Stag & Doe’s as long as you have the right people running it. It is quite a show to see people coming in and out all night long. Thanks for your recommendation!

  17. Damian Orzel
