Description
The Crown and Anchor is an awesome game to rent as the house always wins! Your guests will bet on which suit(s) they think will come up on the wheel. For the guest, it requires no skill ! This is why it is so largely popular.
For the person running the game, they DO need to know how to count. This may sound ridiculous! But they’ll need to know how to multiply with consistent correct answers, as a tiny bit of math needs to happen. For instance, someone puts down two toonies on hearts, and triple hearts comes up on the wheel. So your helper would have to understand that the person gets their $4 back, and then triples their original bet. Plus there are other players playing at the same time. So several calculations have to happen fast! You don’t want your confused helper to mess this up and pay out too much, or even rip people off!
There are 2 different Mats that you can get with this game: Regular & Deluxe. Decide which one works best for you, and if you will need Poker Chips. You can give these to your guests to bet with. Sometimes people hire our Dealer to run this game too.
Crown and Anchor is a typically a high profit game, which is why they are so prevalent at Stag & Doe’s and Fundraisers. Make sure to check out its matching Wheel, called the Horse Race Wheel. It is run completely different yet it’s a nice accompaniment to the Crown and Anchor.

How to Play This Game
We have some recommendations that will help you understand how this game is played. There are 6 suits in this game:
Your guests will put money down on a suit that they think might come up on the wheel, and then they will either win money, double their money, triple their money, or lose their money! Do not fret, the house always wins with Crown and Anchor so you have nothing to worry about. Let’s show you 3 scenarios:
Scenario 1:
- Person 1: Puts $4 on ♥
- Person 2: Puts $3 on ♠
- When your helper spins the wheel, it lands on ♥, ♦, ♣.
- Person 1: Gets $4 back, and wins $4
- Person 2: Money goes to the house, he loses
Scenario 2:
- Person 1: Puts $4 on ♥
- Person 2: Puts $3 on ♠
- When your helper spins the wheel, it lands on ♠, ♠, ♣.
- Person 1: Money goes to the house, he loses
- Person 2: Gets his $3 back, and wins $6 as ♠ came up 2x
Scenario 3:
- Person 1: Puts $2 on ♦
- Person 2: Puts $5 on ♥
- When your helper spins the wheel, it lands on ♥, ♥, ♥
- Person 1: Money goes to the house, he loses
- Person 2: Gets his $5 back, and wins $15 as ♥ came up 3x
How to PROFIT with This Game
We have some excellent tips on how to profit with this game, if you are using it at a Fundraiser. We suggest that you charge a minimum bet of $1 and a maximum of $5. If you did not have a maximum, your guests could drop a $20 on a heart for example. If triple hearts come up on the wheel, they just got their $20 back and made $60. Ouch! Same goes for if someone puts a knickle on a suit. You are never going to make the profit you are hoping for if you don’t have a minimum bet.
The way the Crown and Anchor works, is you will always make a profit on this game, assuming you have a minimum and maximum bet that is reasonable (like our suggestion above).
Difference Between Mats
Regular Mat
This comes with the Crown and Anchor rental and is what most people need for a smaller event. Its dimensions are 4.5 ft by 2.5 ft which is great for a small party and it may look after 4 people at a time.
You may want to consider having two Regular Mats (with two people running it) at each Crown & Anchor Wheel if you are expecting a large crowd. To have the second mat will cost you only $10 extra, which you are sure to make back really quickly so it is a good investment. But again, you need 2 people running it as its too much for 1 person to look after 2 mats.
Deluxe Mat
The Deluxe Mat is there for you to upgrade to for $15, which will replace the regular mat that the rental comes with. Its dimensions are 6 ft x 2.5 ft which may look after 7 people at a time. The space to place money down is much larger and it is almost 2 ft longer. By upgrading to this mat, more people can stand around the mat for you to make money faster! Nothing worse than having people walk away from betting because there was not enough room for them to stand there.
If you are expecting a larger crowd, then you might want to consider getting a second Deluxe Mat, which again would require 2 people running the game.
Which Should I Get?
- Small Party = 1 Regular Mat – looks after up to 4 people at a time
- Medium Party = 1 Deluxe Mat – looks after up to 7 people at a time
- Large Party = 2 Regular Mats – looks after up to 8-10 people at a time and gives everyone lots of room
- Very Large Party = 2 Deluxe Mats – looks after up to 14 people at a time. With this many people, we would actually recommend to instead have 2 Crown and Anchor Wheels with 1 Deluxe Mat on each.
Covering up Triple Pay Out Spots
After booking the Crown and Anchor Wheel, please refer to the email from us confirming your order, and you will see a download area where you can download some different templates.
These templates can be taped (with painters tape of course) to the wheel, and we encourage you to cover up a couple of the triple payout spots. Like ♥ ♥ ♥ for example. There are 2 triple payout spots for each suit, so 12 triple pay-out spots in total.
For the love of God, please do not cover up all of the triple pay out spots! You do not need to! You will profit no matter if you cover up zero spots or 12 spots. Don’t be cheap, because people will shy away and not be as willing to pay to play round after round if their chances of winning are lower. For every $5 you just paid out, you also collected $11 from the losers, so you will be up!
So to summarize, if it is a fundraiser, covering up 1-3 is totally understandable and expected, so go for it!
What Kind of Vehicle do I need?
This will fit into any vehicle! Bring whatever you got!
How to Prepare for Pick up
We have highlighted in Green what you may want to bring with you so that you are well prepared. Only 1 blanket is needed for the wheel, the stand does not need a blanket.
- Bungee Cords
- Tie-downs
- 1 Blanket
- 2 Blankets
How Heavy is this to Transport
A common question is to ask how heavy a product is, so that people know how many others they may need to bring to help lift this into their vehicle. With this product, one person is all you need! It is very light weight so you will be fine. The wheel and stand are detachable so you will be good to go.

Didnt do well for us but couldve been placement. We had it sort of hidden. Because of this it’s hard to give a proper review.

Yes agreed! It is super rare that the Crown & Anchor doesn’t do well, so I would have to agree. Now you know for next time as this is usually a very popular game 😉
