Crack the Code

(27 customer reviews)

From: $49.00

Crack the Code is a mini door with an electronic keypad on it.  Sell pre-printed disposable codes (that we provide you with).  This is much easier than having a ton of keys to track down when finished!  At end of the event, guests enter their code to see if it unlocks the door.  You can use this for your exciting and enticing “door prize”.  I know, it’s a cute theme. Description

Crack the Code is a cutting edge game! People use this for their beloved “door prize” hence the door! Use this game for your biggest prize of the night, which will encourage people to want to stay till the end of the party so that they get a turn entering in their code.

It replaces the old school Treasure Chest / Lock and Key game.  That older style game required you to try to sell keys to open a door.  Then you had the nuisance of tracking down all 100 keys at the end of the night and hoped that you would find and return the 1 winning key to us.  Yikes! Instead, we provide you with 100 disposable pre-printed labels.  Each code has a random code on them, such as “1059” for example.  So we find this is super easy, and a lot less stressful for you.  Your guests can just throw them out when they are done.  Plus, we provide you with these labels so there is no prep for you to do.

A common question is how do we hide the prize behind the door?  Or another question is how big is the box to put a prize inside?  There is no box!  Some of our customers have BBQs or large TVs as the prize, so a box will not work! The door is heavy enough so we did not build a box that would have added onto the weight substantially. Plus, on a personal note, I would want to see what the prize is, rather than betting on a secret prize.  If it were a desirable prize, I would spend extra money to buy more extra codes.  But I probably would not splurge as much if I had no idea what the secret surprise was.  So our customers will display the prize right beside the Crack the Code game.

Dimensions

Here are the dimensions of this product – we have made several over the years and they may differ by an inch or two, but are all relatively similar

Base that the Door sits on

  • 24″ by 31″
  • Weight of entire game = 49 lbs

Door itself that stands on the base

  • Height = 36″
  • Width = 30″
  • Depth = 4.5″

So if you pretend that this is a box, you need to have enough room for 24″ x 31″ x 36″.  It is rare to fit into cars so don’t assume it will fit – take your measurements first!

How to Play This Game

We have some recommendations that will help you understand how this game is played. When you come to pick up the game, we allow you to choose the winning code and we program it for you right there before you take it. Take it to the party, and leave it at the front door where your helpers are accepting admission tickets and perhaps selling drink tickets. At the same time, your helpers can collect money to buy a code for this game. So you don’t really need an extra person to stand beside this game the whole night, which will save on manpower.

Your guests will notice this game and probably ask you what the deal is with the door before you can even give your sales pitch! It demands attention because it is so unique. Your guests will look at the codes placed on a table beside the door, and will guess which code is the winning code that will unlock the door to reveal a Prize!

Your guest will buy at least one code and take the label(s) with them. They can stick it on their shirt which is great advertising for you to sell more codes, or they can simply put it in their pocket or purse. Nearing the end of the fundraiser, your guests will get a chance to enter in their code to see if it will unlock the door.

How to PROFIT with This Game

We have some excellent tips on how to profit with this game, if you are using it at a Fundraiser.  The key is to get people to buy more than one code, so make it worth their while! Have a price for purchasing 1 code, but then entice them to spend more by getting 2 codes, or 5 codes, or even 10 codes. If you use our suggestion of 1, 2, 5 and 10 code options, then we suggest that you charge $5, $8, $10, and $15 respectively. This is assuming that your prize is a good one – just think about how much you would be willing to spend if you were attending someone else’s party, and go with that price.

If you have an unbelievable prize, then consider upping your prices a bit. If at the end of the night you see that the winning code has not been purchased, you can announce this and auction off the remaining codes to ensure you get a winner.

To show you how much you could make with this game, if 100 guest purchased one ticket (100 codes) at $5 each, you could make $500. If 100 guests purchased 2 tickets (200 codes) at $8 each, you could make $800. If 100 guests purchased 5 codes (500 codes) at $10 each, you could make $1000. See the earning potential here? Spending that extra $10 to get an additional 100 codes from us, really pays off for you. But again, ensure that the prize is worthwhile for most of your guests to purchase multiple tickets.

How Many Codes Should I Get? 100? 200? 300?!

This game comes with 100 codes, however our customers started telling us that they sold out of 100 labels and wish they had more, and so we offer more! We suggest that if you have under 100 people coming, get 100 labels which comes with the game. If you have more than 100, then consider getting 200 codes (extra $10). If you have more than 200 people coming, then get 300 codes (extra $20), and so on. Don’t worry about remembering what we just said, because when you scroll up and select your options before adding it to the cart, it will give you these recommendations.

Remember that it only costs $10 to get another 100 codes, and if you sell the tickets for $5 each, that means you only need to sell to 2 people to make your money back! We would hate to hear that you ran out of codes to sell, so overestimating is recommended.

What Kind of Vehicle do I need?

We have highlighted what NOT to bring in Red as we doubt it will fit, and we highlighted our recommended vehicle(s) in Green.   Of course this is only a guideline but we are just giving you our honest opinion based on what we have seen over the years.  We do this day in and day out, so have a really good idea at what will work:

  • Compact Car
  • Large Car (sometimes will fit in trunk if there is a lots of trunk space)
  • Small SUV (will probably only fit in trunk)
  • Large SUV (in trunk, might fit in side door too)
  • Small Pick up Truck (probably won’t fit into side door, so put in bed)
  • Large Pick up Truck (put in bed – might fit in side door if have crew cab)
  • Minivan (anywhere)

How to Prepare for Pick up

We have highlighted in Green what you may want to bring with you so that you are well prepared.  If bringing a car, keep in mind that you might need to remove car seats (and passengers) in the event that you have you put your back seats down flat to fit things in the trunk.  If bringing a van, keep in mind that you might need to have one seat stowed in the floor, or removed altogether.

  • Bungee Cords
  • Tie-downs
  • 1 Blanket
  • 2 Blankets

How Heavy is this to Transport

A common question is to ask how heavy a product is, so that people know how many others they may need to bring to help lift this into their vehicle. With this product, one person could probably handle it on their own, but we would recommend a 2nd person to help them lift it into a vehicle, since we do not assist due to liability reasons. It is awkward to carry too, so if you have huge muscles, you still might want that second person to help navigate it in your car.

This item did well at our stag and doe. I do think we bought too many codes but we still sold a lot! The winning code hadn’t been sold by the end of the night so people were buying the whole sheet. Everyone was excited to finally see it open. Would definitely recommend so long as you use a good prize as incentive to open it!

Its always better to have too many codes, than to run out, so you made the right choice Sarah. And yes, having a good prize as a “Door” Prize, is an excellent suggestion! People need a good reason to spend money on more than one code, so that is key.

Carrie is a dream to work with, and this game couldn’t be easier!
The door set up is great, and the codes come on stickers so nobody loses them!
This game was a huge hit at our fundraiser and even got a little competitive.
You won’t regret renting this game or any other from them.

Hi Kaitlynne – How kind of you to say!! So happy that you found things simple, and yes I like the disposable sticker idea too – so much simpler! Thanks for all of the positive feedback 🙂

  20. Frank

This was such a huge hit at our Stag & Doe! Sold codes for $5 each, and ended up getting 200 additional codes. At the end of the night, we sold 275 codes, so made a killing!

Frank – thanks for your comment! Having that TV as a prize surely helped too, and selling that many codes is fantastic. Great job!
